INDOCRYPT CONFERENCE [ CRSI EVENTS ]

Indocrypt is an annual international cryptography conference held each December since 2000 in India. The conference proceedings are published in Springer Verlag’s LNCS (Lecture Notes in Computer Science) series. Since 2003 Indocrypt has been organized by the Cryptology Research Society of India in association with an Indian institute or organization. The first conference was held in Kolkata and organized by Prof. Bimal Roy of Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.

Indocrypt 2023 will be held at Bits Pilani Goa Campus from December 10 to December 13, 2023.

About Indocrypt

Indocrypt targets researchers and academicians in areas, which include but are not limited to foundations, new primitives, cryptanalysis, provable security, cryptographic protocols, and (post)-quantum cryptography. Alongside cryptographic aspects of network security, complexity theory, information theory, coding theory, and number theory are also considered in the scope of the conference. Indocrypt plays a pivotal role in promoting research in Cryptology, especially among Indian Students, academicians, and industrialists. During Indocrypt, young Indian students, and researchers get the opportunity to meet and discuss with eminent researchers, and leading experts from all over the globe. This directly helps in advancing collaborations within the research community.

The first Indocrypt conference was held in Kolkata in 2000 and organized by Prof. Bimal Kr. Roy of Indian Statistical Institute. Prof. Bimal Kr. Roy and Prof. Eiji Okamoto were the program co-chairs. The general co-chairs were Prof. R. Balasubramaniam and Prof. Cunsheng Ding. Eminent cryptographers Prof. Adi Shamir and Prof. Eli Biham were present to deliver invited talks. Both of them were also former directors of the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR).

Since its inception, this annual conference has not only been considered as the leading Indian venue on cryptology but also has gained recognition among the prestigious cryptology conferences in the world. Over the last two decades, the conference was held in various cities of India, such as Kolkata (2000, 2006, 2012, 2016, 2022), Chennai (2001, 2004, 2007, 2011, 2017), Hyderabad (2002, 2010, 2019), New Delhi (2003, 2009, 2014, 2018), Bangalore (2005, 2015), Kharagpur (2008), Mumbai (2013), and Jaipur (2021). A total of 640 papers have been accepted in Indocrypt from 2000 to 2022. These include papers from almost all top cryptographic researchers all over the world.

Apart from the publications, several eminent cryptographers have gladly accepted to give invited talks at Indocrypt. This list includes Prof. Neal I Koblitz, Creator of hyper-elliptic curve cryptography and the independent co-creator of elliptic curve cryptography; Prof. Bart Preneel, former director and vice-president of IACR; Prof. Shai Halevi, former director of IACR; Prof. Philip Rogaway, former director of IACR; Prof. Christof Paar, former director of IACR; Prof. Tatsuaki Okamoto, former director of IACR. Both Government and private Indian research organizations value the contribution of Indocrypt in promoting research in Cryptology and Security and take part actively in it by submitting their research works, attending the conference, and providing necessary sponsorship regularly.
